“Quiet motors” recorded live in Novi Sad, Serbia

Early October, Pierre Bastien performed “Quiet motors” at legendary Studio M in Novi Sad Serbia, live studio of Serbian national TV which counts within his past appearances concerts of Chet Baker, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Archie Shepp, Charles Gayle, Barre Phillips, Anthony Braxton or Steve Lacy, for a show organized by Vojvodina Institute of Culture. Pierre Bastien at Semaine du Bizarre in Montreuil December 9th with Collection Morel

After recent shows at Nantes Stereolux, MACBA Barcelona, Brussels with Les Ateliers Claus, November Music in Den Bosch, UH Fest in Budapest or Wir sind die Roboter in Berlin, Pierre Bastien will present Friday 9th December for the first time in Paris and area his live soloQuiet motors for La Semaine du Bizarre at Théâtre Berthelot, on a proposal of Collection Morel for a special Bachelor machines night. Also on the program : a talk of Jean-Jacques Palix and the reading of an unpublished text from Collection Morel. “Recording Angels” with Anne-James Chaton, recording by Aleksander Kolkowski

December 4th at 5 pm at Le Bon Accueil in Rennes will happen the closing of The Ghost in the Machine, after several months of exhibition. This special session, Recording Angels, will be the last opportunity for visiting Pierre Bastien’s little dancer on flapping paper Carmencita he realized for the exhibition, but also a public recording session of Anne-James Chaton and Pierre, operated by Aleksander Kolkowski with an Edison recorder on cylinder taken from his own collection | More info

 

Residency and concert at El Tanque, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Three residencies are extending the 2016 edition of Keroxen, a festival taking place at El Tanque, a huge cistern in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Among them, from December 12th to 17th, El Tanque is hosting Pierre Bastien for a collaboration with Madrid based video artist Roman Tower and local musician and inventor David Paredes. El Tanque is strongly challenging the work of the artists, with its 24 meters wide screen made of recycled pesticide jerrycans and its specific acoustics. There will be a public presentation of the work on Saturday the 17th of December, and a further release on the Keroxen record label. More info on Keroxen’s website soon !

Book release of “Music without musicians” on mechanical orchestras

Oct 22nd has been released at Het Apollohuis in Eindhoven “Music without musicians”, a book around an exhibition back in 1997 from Paul Panhuysen at De IJsbreker in Amsterdam around mechanical orchestras. This book documents the orchestras created by the six artists Trimpin, Frédéric Le Junter, Ulrich Eller, Ad van Buuren, Pierre Bastien and Harald Kubiczak. The CD features original recordings of each of the six orchestras. The accompanying essays by Kitty Zijlmans and Leon van Noorden use the programmatic title of the project, “Music Without Musicians,” as a point of departure for examining the absence of musicians in the process of making music | More info

Back to NY night, collaboration with Mark Cunningham : video

This summer in Paris, Pierre Bastien was part, with a special collaboration with Mark Cunningham (Mars, Raeo…), of a program around the New York scene at Paris-104 along Lee Ranaldo and Leah Singer, Tyondai Braxton, Dälek, Rhys Chatham, Brian Turner (WFMU), Rhys Chatham, Sal P from Liquid Liquid, Dominique Ponty & Stefan Lakatos play Moondog, Charlie Locker, Jacqueline Caux, Rosa Vertov… The video of the evening, made by Mariette Auvray, is now online !

Several new items have been added recently to Pierre Bastien’s online shop : two seven inches, first, a 200 copy split one with Mats Gustafsson (Emphase records, 2010, details) and the “XVII La Estrella” aka the beautiful Tarot one (G3G, 1993).
